International Festival of Spanish and Latin American Music / Festival Internacional de Música Española y Latinoamericana (F.I.M.E.L.)

Genaro Mendez

For ten days in June 2009, Lawrence, Kansas will become home to the first annual International Festival of Spanish and Latin American Music. In Spanish, we are the Festival Internacional de Música Española y Latinoamericana (FIMEL).

Our mission is to bring together master musicians, dancers, and young artists from across the world to share the beauty and artistry of Spanish and Latin American music through study, collaboration and performance. We cordially invite you to be a part of this exciting series of free performances and open masterclasses in beautiful, historic settings in and around Lawrence, Kansas.

We are incredibly honored to welcome internationally acclaimed opera singer and recording artist, Teresa Berganza, as our first guest artist and master teacher. Arguably the finest Rossini mezzo-soprano of our time and a Spanish art song specialist, Sra Berganza has performed in the world’s most prestigious opera houses with over 80 classical recordings. Highly sought after for her musical expertise, Sra Berganza will make her American masterclass debut with FIMEL.

As the FIMEL Founding Director, I invite you to be transported to Spain and Latin America through music and dance. Enjoy the beauty of this emerging art form in the United States. Soak up the mastery and expertise of world-famous opera singer Teresa Berganza. Experience FIMEL.

Sincerely,

Genaro Mendez
